Our story
We are the Bridgwater & District Friends of Cancer Research UK, a small but thriving group of local volunteers, dedicated to raising money for lifesaving research into cancer. The Districts of Sedgemoor and Bridgwater are covered by our group, who meet monthly and organise functions and collections which raise money to fund research. The Group has raised over £1million for Cancer Research UK since it was formed. The important milestone of £500,000 was reached in 2011 and we have raised staggering amounts annually since then. This was only possible with the help of our volunteers, the generosity and support of local businesses, individuals and the local community. In 2010 we were the very proud recipients of a Cancer Research UK ‘Flame of Hope’ award, which is only given to the most exceptional volunteers, who have shown outstanding dedication. It was lovely to be recognised by Cancer Research UK for our efforts and seven years later (2017) we were overflowing with pride as we were once again honoured with a Flame of Hope Award. Types of events we organise & support: The Bridgwater Half Marathon |The Great Somerset Duck Race | SedgePAW Dog Show | Fashion Show | Christmas & Easter Bingos | Pig Roasts / Live Music Events | Christmas Collection Floats | Raffles | Fun Days & Fetes | Tombolas & Table Top Sales | Christmas Bazaar | Stewarding & Car Parking for Larger Events | Collections and much more!! As an official Cancer Research UK local group we also act as ambassadors for the charity in collecting donations from local people, supporting their fundraising events and acknowledging their hard work and kind donations with press releases, cheque presentations and certificates etc.
